Education & Outreach
Stageworks is an award-winning, intergenerational theatre whose purpose is to inspire and instill a love of theatre in people of all ages. Not only does Stageworks perform at Mesa Arts Center; occasionally it performs in the community. Participants have the opportunity to learn or further enhance the following skills:
- Receive performance opportunities in a professionally produced theatre.
- Work with a wide variety of actors in an intergenerational setting.
- Improve acting skills by working with directors from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- Provide a service to the community in a team-oriented manner.
- Perform school day shows for a dominantly young audience.
In addition, Stageworks provides the following education programs for audience members:
- Accessible and affordable performances during the school day for young audiences.
- Hands-on activities for young people and their families prior to the show.
- Study guides for educators and parents.
- Question and answer sessions with actors following selected shows.
- Builds bridges with educators, students, and their families.
According to a nationwide survey on "What Kids Need To Succeed," youth who spend one hour or more per week in "sports, clubs, or cultural activities" have a greater opportunity for success, and according to the same report, "Youth need access to non-parent adults for advice and support." Stageworks serves young people in this capacity.
